Ocean City, Maryland

Airports
The closest major airport to Ocean City, MD is BWI (although Dulles (IAD) and National (DCA) are not much farther if you find you can save a lot of money that way or you intend to visit DC while you're here). There is a small airport about 30 minutes from Ocean City in Salisbury, MD (SBY).
Either way, a rental car is probably in order. If you would like assistance from Susan or Don in coordinating flight times with others who are flying the friendly skies, please let us know by sending an e-mail to info at nicemirror dot com.
Driving
From the Washington area, Ocean City is about a 2.5 hour drive. It's a straight shot on Rt. 50 East, across the Bay Bridge and south down the Eastern Shore. Here are directions to Ocean City via Rt. 50 starting at the Capital Beltway (Rt. 495). If you're on the Beltway, Rt. 50 is Exit 19A. If you you're coming through the city, New York Avenue becomes Rt. 50.
Ocean City itself is a barrier island only about 10 miles in length and a few blocks wide. It's very easy to navigate.
Hotel
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Francis Scott Key Resort in West Ocean City. The hotel is located on Rt. 50 just west of the bridge that takes you onto the island. Call (410) 213-0088 to make reservations and mention the Fussell-Whiteside Wedding for the discounted rate of $65 per night. We'd like to encouarge you to stay at this property because:
- It's owned by our good friends, the Dickersons, who are helping to make this a great weekend for everyone
- It's close to the Welcome Dinner on Friday night
- We're running shuttles from the hotel to the wedding / reception so no one is tempted to drink and drive
- It's the location of the Bagel Brunch on Sunday
- They're extending us a very nice rate and it's a property we can personally vouch for
However, Ocean City is a resort town with lots of different lodging options. Contact Susan if you want help locating something different.
Activities
Between the Welcome Dinner, the Wedding and Reception, and the Bagel Brunch we're keeping you pretty busy, but if you still have free time you can find out a lot about Ocean City on the town's Web site - www.OCOcean.com.
- One of our favorite places in the area to sightsee is Assateague Island National Seashore (or the State Park). Two words - WILD PONIES!
- There are also a host of boat / nature tours, a very fun Boardwalk with amusement rides, old-school arcades and food vendors, and (duh) a 10-mile beach.
- If you want to golf on Saturday or Sunday, you'll have no shortage of good courses.
