This week I got a couple of great ideas from Martha and Brides.com. To get to our ceremony site, guests will have to cross a beach dune. I saw photos from a wedding where the dune fence was lined with torches. It will be light out when our guests arrive, but it’s a nice touch. Also - enter the cheapskate bride - it should be easy to score a bunch at the end of summer for a major discount.
I’ve been debating about whether or not to have a candy bar / buffet. It’s a nice touch and we have yet to attend wedding with one, but is it weird to mix my professional life into my wedding? If we do, I’d really like to focus on our wedding colors - blues, white, silver … but that should give us plenty of choices. Don says that unless we get all the candy gratis, we won’t have it … but I think he’s bluffing.

Would you consider luminaries instead of the torches? Paper bags with some rocks in the bottom to hold them in plce and a candle in the bottom. We used them all the time at the event venue I used to work at and they really looked lovely. Plus cheap. You could use a funky hole punch to make a design if you’re feeling crafty.

Katy - All the materials for the invitations have arrived … so we’ll be having a girls night soon. Donna had the idea that we should all get together once and month to drink wine and make like 3 invitations each. In 5 months time we will have made them all without doing much work and will have had a reason to hang and drink every month (like we need a reason for that!).
Chris - We would consider it. For the dune crossing we need something tall that can be placed INSIDE the fence, though because the beach will not be shut down to other visitors - it’s a regular ‘ole public beach. I was looking for a starfish hole punch for luminaries on the deck of the reception venue, though. Might have to settle for a regular star and just pretend. I also found some cheap bags that have lots of little stars already punched out.
