Our friend Ed sent me a link last week to a company that makes the confectionery toppers for cupcakes. In the interest of full disclosure, Ed knows the owner of the company.
Cupcake Caps
However, I do not know her and I’m something of an expert on confectionery, so take my word for it, these cupcake toppers are cute!
They have a line of wedding cupcake toppers, and they can create custom designs as well. Also - I think they are pretty inexpensive at $1 per topper (for the styles already part of their repertoire - not for the custom orders).
So, who is on board for making 90 cupcakes the day before our wedding? Anyone? Anyone?

You got a kitchen and equipment I could use? I might just be able to hook you up…particularly if you could find me a hot, single male assistant.

Hmmmm … perhaps. My parents have a big kicthen with a double oven. I’ll give some thought to who could assist you.
August 26th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
err, they have a big kitchen that is (not kicthen).

I ill help if you can find a kicthen. And another hot male assistant… I’m sure Ed won’t mind.
BTW, are you sure Ed’s not getting a percentage if you buy these?

Wow. I should check for typos before I mock yours. I WILL help. “I ill help” implies food poisoning or something.
Also, the Word Verification decided to punish me by giving me a 27 letter non-word.

I think they are adorable! Me and baby Sterling would love to help…if you would just get married down here!

Kate and Genie - My Dad’s pretty handsome, but he’s married, you know, to my mom. How strict are you going to be on the whole “single” thing?
Jessica - I’m not sure baby Sterling is going to have the hand-eye coordination it will take to place the cupcake caps, but he will be cute and single … so maybe we can trick Kate and Genie.

Wait, you want hand-eye coordination? Hmmm… I think Ed should do this, since he brought it up and all. Where’s his post volunteering to help? Hmph.

Wait, I”m confused- are these caps edible? Or are they plastic? Looking at them, all I can think is “Cupcake Condoms”.
You can beat the hills for volunteers but if I were you, I’d order them from Costco. Their cakes really aren’t bad!
August 29th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Chris - They are totally edible and alleged to be quite tasty. How long do you think Costco cupcakes would last? There is not a Costco on the Eastern Shore so we’d have to get them before we head in that direction - probably three days before the wedding (or ask someone not coming until Friday to get them). At any rate, they wouldn’t be super fresh out of the kitchen. There is a Sam’s Club about 30 minutes from my parent’s home. I’ve heard Wal-Mart has great cakes. Has anyone had a cake from Sam’s Club?
August 29th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
We used to have Sam’s Club cakes at work in Iowa all the time — I would scrunch up my nose and ignore the fact that we were supporting the Wal-Mart people…but those were damn tasty cakes.
And you are right — your Dad is handsome and male. I suppose I could overlook the whole single part of it … it is, after all, a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. I might have to swat him in the butt with a towel, though!

Cake actually freezes REALLY well. Especially unfrosted cake. Give it a try- buy some unfrosted cupcakes (I imagine you’d have to special order them) from your local Costco, freeze them, and do a big taste test to see if the taste suffers, and what the optimal defrost time would be. And for heavens sake get some of those condoms and taste them, because nothing makes me sadder than bad desserts.
